7.1 Bacon wrapped dates

No explanation needed.

Source: Had them at a restaurant. Decided I liked them.

10-20 pitted dates

Baking sheet

5-15 strips of bacon

Toothpicks (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Wrap each date in approximately 1/3 - 1/2 a strip of bacon.
  2. If you’ll be using a grill, use a toothpick to help keep the bacon wrapped around the date.
  3. Bake / grill until the bacon is cooked, but don’t overcook it. Even if you like crispy bacon, I think going too crispy here is a mistake.

Variations:

  • Using dates stuffed with some cheese would probably be good. Haven’t tried it yet.
  • A basalmic glaze drizzled over these is also rather nice.

Notes:

  • If you’re grilling these, be careful when flipping them, the bacon likes to stick to the grate.
